Accessorising your Modular Kitchen 101
As seasoned vendors of Hardware and Furniture Accessories, we often witness customers walk into our Experience Centre either with a project in the pipeline, or those simply looking to remodel and upgrade an existing set up. The kitchen is predominantly one area that peaks on the list of priorities when it comes to smart accessorising. In an effort to make the task of choosing what best fits our customer’s needs less mind numbing, we’ve put together a set of basic requirements for a hassle free, practical cook space.

IS IT A "L" OR A "U"?

Kitchens, as you can see come in many shapes and sizes; the L and the U being the most widely held of all. Deciding the shape of your kitchen is a great way to prioritise how you would use it. If you are looking to integrate the service area (comprising of washing machines, dishwashers and the rest) within your kitchen, an U shaped kitchen is the way to go. While on the other hand, a L shaped kitchen is strictly practical and utility driven.

THE ANATOMY OF A KITCHEN

Once you decide on the shape of your kitchen, the next step is to evaluate how best you could accessorise the given space.

The Anatomy of a kitchen, as we call it, comprises of 3 components.

  1. The Base Units
  2. The Wall Units
  3. The Larder UnitS

In this section we will be discussing The Base Units in considerable detail, and in the subsequent posts we will be tacking the other two components.

There are certain minimum dimensional constraints that you’ve got to keep in mind before you accessorise your Base Units.

While the Width (W) is usually a flexible criterion, the Depth (D) and the Height (H) of your carcass must comply to modular standards.

+The Minimum Carcass Depth must be 550 mm, and the Minimum Carcass Height must be 750 mm excluding the 100mm skirting+

Note that here, the dimensions don’t necessarily apply to drawer mechanisms as there you can moderate all three dimensions since they run solely on channels. However, for the rest of your accessories, you need to have a Minimum Clearance for accommodation as indicated above.
